UMMC Internal Medicine Residency Program: Clinician Educator Track

Who: 4 PGY2 medicine (or PGY3 medicine/pediatrics) residents and 4 PGY3 (or PGY4 medicine/pediatric) residents. Residents are selected from an application process; preference is given to those who desire a career in academic medicine.

When: The course spans two academic years. Total amount of time dedicated to the course is around 40 hours. Participants receive a certificate at resident graduation after successful completion of the program.

Course Curriculum

The course is longitudinal throughout the academic year and will include both skills development and hands-on teaching. Curriculum components include:

  • Didactics/journal club/roundtable discussions
  • Participation in the Stanford Medical Educator’s course
  • Medical student and resident teaching, including:
  • M3 student clerkship lectures
  • IMP2 medical student course
  • Resident morning report or noon conference
  • M3 Transitions Course
  • M4 Transitions to Residency Course
  • Active participation in a medical education research project
  • Preparation of teaching portfolio
